:D Here's the second log. This was the butt log and the biggest log on the mill to date. I would never attempt this alone. There's just way too many things that can go wrong. Keep in mind this is a totally manual mill. Logs like this will hurt you in a hurry and they don't feel a thing. This log went every bit 0f 4200lbs. Gotta do some whittling on it, but it'll be well worth it.

Thats Big, HArdest thing about big like that is getting the slabs/flitch off, there so heavy, then puttin the flitch back on fer edging.
I gotta big pine, Butt log, thats 30" on the mill right now, everything about these big ones is heavy.

:D Yeah you got that right Robert. I lift the first slab off with the overhead and move them down to the end of the mill. Then when I'm done with the log. I put them back on for finishing. I think it's fair to charge extra for heavy. I don't,.... but I think I'm gonna start. This customer is ordering 2, 5" X 18" X 5' mantels thats 75BF, and a few 3"X 20"X10' it's all heavy and requires the forklift just to get off the mill. I don't have any help but even if I did it's still a load for two people. It's a good thing Daddy never raised any sissy's  8)

Wow, WB that is a monster log. Makes your mill look like a pee-wee.
Hope it cuts ok.

 Yeah boy's, I found the limit. This is too much log for the OL LM2000. It's gonna saw it fine once I get it so the saw will clear the log with no blade on it. Then it's on. It is just way to much work for what I'll get for it. Dont get me wrong,... I am adding hours to the bill but I really don't like doing that after a quote. But that was kinda an open ended deal as we knew it was gonna be a job. Anyhow, I have learned what is too much if nothing else. I lived it, I learned it, And I know how to keep it from happening again.

:D Man, I sure starting to really think about charging for heavy  Everything this customer ordered is thick N wide. It's ALL too much for one man, or at least this one man  It is some pretty timber. He didn't want it q-sawn.

Man I sure do hate doing this!!! I had to take the guards off for the extra clearance. But it works on me to do that. There's no telling what would happen if that blade was to break. As soon as I got it so that I could replace them I did just that.

While back I sawed up a red oak stump into a bench for my church auction that they have for poor kids for christmas. The stump was to big for the mill and was only 45 inches long. It wouldnt fit on 2 bunks, so I had to put it on a 2x10. I wouldnt advise it by yourself, it was very heavy and I lost it several times. The slab was 45 long 20 deep and 4 thick the legs were 4" thick as well and all in all it weighed about 200 pounds. Turned out real nice but I forgot the picks. It brought 71 dollars at the auction wich I thought was a fair price for a rough cut bench. Bad news is while it was on the porch waiting to be bolted together my wife tried to move it so she could sweep and it smashed her big toe. Smashed it flat it split the sides and took 6 stitches. She was not happy, I am no longer allowed to assemble things on the porch. :(

:D Yes Kevin, this was a very good deal. The customer is a member here. He saw all the work that went into it and unlike most of my customers, He blessed me with no bickering over price and laid a right nice tip on me. Than You Roger. He came to pick up his timber in a rented truck and we LLLOOOAAADDDEEEDDD it up. If I didn't have the forklift we'd still be loading it  8)

Don't know about you guys, but there is no milling up here today. It is a cold rainy day in Delaware. Good day to set in and watch a football game. Or maybe work some in the shop, have enough out there to do to keep me busy for a little while.

Well WB I've said that on a number of post, that where if a log is over a certain size there should be a cost adjustment, I myself havent come up with the certain size yet, but I'm thinking 26-28" on the large end,, just because of the EXTRA work involved,, and I havent structured a price yet, but I will,, see I can nail down 300BF an hour pretty easy by myself, with the standared run of the mill logs, but things drasticly change when you start nearin your limits.
