went out this afternoon and measured the tree at chest height . 191"----this is a roughly 60" dia. biggest pine i've ever measured. even if i split it down the middle it is till right at the max for my mill. first limb is a little over 25 feet up. not sure that i even want to fool with it....

nope, not buying the tree. just curious on how big the tree is and the correct way to measure it.. makes sense about the sap. not in a fence line , on the edger of a creek, the high water ate at the roots and it has leaned over till its almost on the ground. Ken

I was offered a LARGE SY pine today. It is a monster!!!! How do you accurately measure the tree to get a size?

I have been told to measure the circumference of the tree at four feet off the ground. WHY? cause i'm darn sure gonna cut it closer to the ground if possible.. Ken

used the spindles off a wrecked mustang parts car, 4" schedule 80 pipe for the main beam, 5" for the slider, 3" for the legs, 4angle for the feet, and 2 1/2" for the hitch. Car tires are the weak link, gonna upgrade to some trailer tires and things will be finished. Can handle a ...

My dad and i got tired of wrestling logs around the log lot, so we made us a log arch. what do you think? the log in the pic was estimated on the wood web site at 2600 pounds, hauled it off with no issues. Ken

Hey WB---no problems logging in, but when i type in the reply boxes the text appears very slowly sometime 20-30 seconds behind what i am actually typing. This is the only place i go that this issue occcurs, just thought i would let you know. Ken

Kevin, you really just need to figure out what style of corners you want and then get the few tools you need. Its not that difficult, if the pioneers could do it with axes, we should be able to do it easily with our modern tools. Ken

yes, we will be starting consruction in the next few months (years) when (if) my wife approves the floor plan. She is a professional photographer and also does web design, so she will document it well. Ken

Yeah a 56'ft green slab will be murder to handle Be like a giant noodle. I will be using SYP logs(cause they are all i can get) and i am cutting 14-20 inch butt logs and then will peel (drawknife) and stack them off the ground in my shop. Just got back from a trip to NE Kentucky, out past Winchester ,where i purchased 2 20' extensions complete with an extra chain log turner and on the way back through Tennessee picked up an extra set of log loaders.
