Ive been thinking the same thing. My idea was to cut my boards at 1" by 8" or 6". then I was planning on putting a good sized log on the bed and making a good wide cut. Then nail a 7/16 shim on the front side and a 7/16 stop on the back side. Put the boards on and make one cut and you...

My problem is they dont understand that the smaller the log the straighter it needs to be. They tell me its small but straight. I try to tell them that a four inch bow in an 8 inch log renders the log basically worthless. And they always want to measure the big end.

I had my 5 year old on the hunt with us also. We were in the tree for 3 hours and he slept on my lap for half of it. We have the buddy stand from walmart. We love it, its easy to get into and its big enough for 2 adults or 1 adult and 2 kids. very safe.

This is my eight year olds first real deer season. This was his second deer and my first. Its tough getting a shot when you have to go second all of the time. But Lord willing Ive got some more years in me and I can hunt alone again. Both deer he took this year were does, and both were one shot kill...

Ive been told that sycamore is what was once used on boat decks. Ive also been told that it makes the best siding, lasts forever if you keep it off of the ground. I have a book on hardwoods and it says that sycamore is used alot for drawer sides. Maybe a cabinet maker would like some. But I have had...

Why do you need to get the size? Are you planning on buying the tree. I watched a show about big redwood trees and they said that because of the , I think, sap in the bottom of the tree that they cut well above the ground. That is how the spring boards came about. Around here its not a bad idea, you...

I know what you meen. I already work 2 full time jobs, and I have 3 kids with another one on the way. Last thing I need is another job in the evening. Our sawing comes and goes, we dont have a steady flow from week to week. I would rather pay more for a product, if I know its coming from a good man....

sounds great to me. You might just start something profitable. Get away from the general framing lumber and start sawing pieces for their their looks and value.

looks like a lot of fun to me. Are you going to have a loft or a cathedral ceiling. Are you going to insulate, Im sure it gets pretty hot there in the summer. I hope to timber frame a barn in the future. Got a lot of other things that need to be done first. I really have no need of a barn. Just want...
